Blantyre City has a new mayor after Bangwe Ntopwa Ward councillor Isaac Jomo Osman was officially declared the winner of the city’s mayoral elections.

Jomo, who previously served as Vice Mayor, will now lead the city for the next two and a half years after securing 15 votes, beating fellow DPP councillors Eric Mofolo, who received 11 votes, and Joseph Makwinja, who got 4 votes.

In the same elections, Gerald Lipikwe, DPP councillor for Limbe–Chiwembe Ward, was elected Vice Mayor of Blantyre City.

The results mark a continuation of Democratic Progressive Party leadership in the city, with Osman promising to focus on service delivery and improving local governance.
