The U.S. government has formally designated four European Antifa-affiliated groups as foreign terrorist organizations, marking the most sweeping action Washington has taken against the movement.

The Department of State announced Thursday that the four groups would be designated as "Specially Designated Global Terrorists," with plans to formally classify them as "Foreign Terrorist Organizations" from November 20, 2025.

The State Department described the groups as "violent Antifa groups."

The move targets Antifa Ost, the Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front (FAI/FRI), Armed Proletarian Justice, and Revolutionary Class Self-Defense. The groups are from Germany, Italy and Greece.
