LONDON — At least 11 individuals, including a pregnant woman, sustained injuries from Russian attacks in the Kyiv region early Friday morning, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The assaults damaged sections of heating networks, leaving some buildings without heat, he reported on Telegram.
The Kyiv City State Administration noted that at least 15 buildings in the city have been affected by the attacks.
In addition to the violence in Kyiv, Ukrainian forces have faced significant challenges in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. A military spokesperson indicated that Ukrainian troops were compelled to withdraw from several positions due to intense Russian assaults.
Southern Defense Forces spokesman Vladyslav Voloshyn stated that Russian forces have been conducting over 400 artillery strikes daily. He mentioned that Ukrainian defensive fortifications have suffered considerable destruction, particularly in areas around Novouspenivske, Nove, Okhotnyche, Uspenivka, and Novomykolaivka.
“The situation there remains difficult, in part because of weather conditions that favor the attacks,” Voloshyn said. However, he emphasized that Ukrainian forces continue to resist, expressing gratitude to all units involved in defending the country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged the ongoing struggles, stating, “But we continue to destroy the occupier, and I thank every one of our units, every warrior involved in defending Ukraine’s positions.”
The conflict has also raised concerns about the potential fall of Pokrovsk, a city that housed around 60,000 residents at the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. The loss of Pokrovsk could represent one of Ukraine's most significant defeats in the ongoing war, following an 18-month battle of attrition against Russian forces.
