Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara doesn’t agree with Gautam Gambhir’s decision to replace Sai Sudharsan with all-rounder Washington Sundar at number three in the men’s Test team. He feels that Sudharsan’s performances in the five Tests so far didn’t warrant such a quick snub, especially ahead of a home series against South Africa, which he feels was a ‘golden chance’ for the 24-year-old to cement his place.

Sudharsan has 273 runs after five Tests at an average of 30.33. His exploits included two fifties in nine innings. Number three has become a position of huge concern for the team. Sundar has now become the seventh option India have played at one down since Pujara was dropped in 2023.
