Four Charleston attorneys have sent a letter to Charleston City Council alleging misconduct and excessive use of force by a Charleston Police Department officer and the Special Enforcement Unit.

According to the Charleston Police Department’s website , the SEU responds to “vice complaints.”

“A primary focus of SEU is to deter street level crimes such as prostitution, drug activity and other street crimes,” the website says.

The SEU was disbanded in July, according to Charleston Police Chief Scott Dempsey.

Attorneys Rico R. Moore, Olobunmi Kushimo-Frazier, Trent A. Redman and Geoff Cullop sent the letter to the Professional Standards Division of CPD, Charleston City Council and the City Attorney.

The letter, sent Thursday, alleges four specific incidents of excessive force.
