It's been seven years since Jane Murphy, 29, entered treatment for an eating disorder that began in childhood.

Now in recovery, she still has to grapple with seeing social media content about weight loss and diets, despite "hitting the not interested button."

"I still find myself to this day fighting my algorithm," Mrs Murphy told The Canberra Times .

After being exposed to pro-anorexia social media accounts as a young teenager, she is acutely aware of the harm unfiltered content can cause.

Along with Butterfly Foundation ambassador April Hélène-Horton, Mrs Murphy wants social media to become safer - and tech companies could soon be forced to make this happen.
