Martin Lewis has today issued a warning to anyone who has a debit card from banks such as Natwest, Barclays, Nationwide and Lloyds. The personal finance expert was speaking out on his BBC podcast and highlighted how some people will always use their debit bank card rather than a credit card.
He said users could fall foul of soaring interest rates on debit cards - even worse than those on credit cards. He said: “Many people tend to think credit card’s bad, debit card’s good, but it just isn’t that simple. First of all, if you’re overdrawn, a debit card is a debt card too, and a typical high street overdraft is at 40% annual interest compared to a high street credit card at 25% annual interest.
