High school football playoffs have arrived in New York City. After nine weeks of regular-season action, the postseason is here and features several intriguing matchups.
In PSAL 4A, John F. Kennedy (Bronx) got the help it needed and made the playoffs after Fort Hamilton (Brooklyn) defeated Brooklyn Tech last Sunday.
“Excitement — that’s the best word to describe it,” John F. Kennedy coach Alex Vega said. “Our guys have been through a lot this year. So I’m proud of the kids for persevering, and now we have a chance.”
Because of their preseason seed and rating, Kennedy enters as the No. 5 seed. JFK (3-5) is led by senior running back Derik Betances, who has 1,317 all-purpose yards. The Knights will face perennial powerhouse Abraham Lincoln (Brooklyn) at noon Saturday.
