Thousands of resident doctors in England are going on strike today in a long-running dispute with the government over pay.
NHS bosses are aiming to keep nearly all services running as doctors stage a five-day walkout , which began at 7am on Friday (November 14) and will last until 7am on Wednesday (November 19).
Health leaders have warned the NHS may have to cut frontline staff plus appointments and operations for patients if doctors’ strikes continue.
The industrial action is the 13th walkout by doctors since March 2023, with the last strike in July estimated to have cost the health service £300 million.
