Prisons are in “crisis mode” and it’s fuelling more crime, according to MPs. Terrible conditions behind bars is risking the ability to rehabilitate offenders and cut crime, a committee of politicians warned.
In a brand new report published today (Friday), the experts found there is overcrowding in jails as well as staff shortages and dire living conditions among the issues that need sorting out.
The Justice Committee said it was “unsurprising” that 80% of crime in England and Wales is reoffending after hearing how prisoners are “languishing” in their cell
