In a new policy designed to alleviate food insecurity and financial burdens among Iowa’s most at-risk, the charitable Embrace Iowa program will allow eligible candidates to apply for funds to pay for groceries at local stores.

“This was a crisis that our low-income families were facing, because the government was not able to fund SNAP benefits. When crises hit low-income families, it has a cascading effect. And it's so much slower to recover when you are already in the hole,” explained Katherine Riley Harrington, Executive Director of the program’s oversight organization, the Iowa Community Action Association.
