The superintendent of schools in Middletown, who is facing a DUI charge in Florida, was placed on administrative leave immediately after a board of education vote Thursday night.

Alberto Vázquez Matos was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Brandon, Florida in July. The citation from police says he refused taking a breathalyzer.

He was also charged with holding a Connecticut and Florida license. Vázquez Matos surrendered his Florida license at the arrest.

Vázquez Matos pled not guilty to the two charges he faces.
