The Department for Work and Pensions could scrap plans for compensation for WASPI women - after a £10.5bn cost emerged. The DWP and Labour Party government are reconsidering the decision to deny payouts for WASPI women after "new evidence" came to light.
But payments for the 3.5 million women affected by the state pension age increase could cost an eye-watering £10.5 BILLION. Tom Selby, of AJ Bell, said: “Clearly if the Government were forced to pay out £10bn in compensation to Waspi women this would blow a huge hole in the Treasury’s coffers."
But Mr Selby hinted the DWP could ditch plans for payouts altogether due to the ballooning cost, saying despite the threat of the bill, "it is not clear that this will happen."
