HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - A bill that aims to help create more affordable housing in Connecticut was approved by the state Senate late Thursday night.
The controversial “ House Bill 8002: An Act Concerning Housing Growth ″ now heads to Gov. Ned Lamont’s desk.
“Connecticut’s housing shortage is among the most severe in the country,” Lamont said. “It is driving up costs for working families, deterring businesses from investing or growing, and worsening homelessness. Simply put, the status quo is unsustainable.”
Lamont said that while the state made significant steps forward in recent years to increase its housing stock, it needed to do more to address an urgent need.
