KOLKATA: India dominated the first day of the first cricket test against South Africa. Having bowled out South Africa for 159 runs, India is at 37 runs for the loss of one wicket. KL Rahul (13) and Washington Sundar (6) are at the crease. India lost the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 12 runs. However, the main topic of discussion among cricket experts is the experiment conducted by coach Gautam Gambhir in the batting order.

Although the squad has two specialist batsmen, Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal, neither has been included in the playing eleven. Gambhir has experimented with spin bowling all-rounder Sundar to bat at number three after the openers. Captain Gill will bat at number four after this.
