The Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the single-largest party in Bihar as votes for the state Assembly elections are being counted on Friday.

As of 6.20 pm, the party had won 45 seats and was leading in 46 of the 101 constituencies it contested, a strike rate of 90%. This is one of the best performances of the BJP in the state.

In 2020, the BJP had won 74 seats, in 2015 it won 53, in 2010 the tally was 91 and in 2005 it was 37.

The BJP is part of the National Democratic Alliance, which also includes Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), Union minister Chirag Paswan’s faction of the Lok Janshakti Party, the Rashtriya Lok Morcha and the Hindustani Awam Morcha.

The NDA is ahead of the Opposition Mahagathbandhan in 204 of 243 seats.
