Chhoti Kumari of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in the Chapra Assembly constituency, with a significant margin of over 47,000 votes against her rival, Khesari Lal Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). This election is part of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, which saw a record voter turnout of 67.13 percent across two phases on November 6 and November 11.
Chhoti Kumari, currently the Zila Parishad chairperson, was chosen by the BJP to contest in place of the sitting MLA, CN Gupta. With a 12th-grade education, she has held various political roles, including president of the District Council. Her husband, Dharmendra Sah, is the district general secretary of the BJP. Kumari belongs to the Vaishya community, which is a significant part of the local electorate, and her declared assets are approximately Rs 1.4 crore.
Khesari Lal Yadav, a well-known Bhojpuri actor and singer, joined the RJD in October 2025. Initially, his wife was supposed to contest, but due to her name missing from the voter list, Yadav stepped in. He has expressed his commitment to the development of Chapra, stating, "Just like I am able to educate my children in a good school, people of this constituency should be able to do the same. There should be proper health facilities for people."
The Chapra constituency has been a BJP stronghold since 2010, with the party winning the seat in the last two elections. The ongoing counting of votes shows that Chhoti Kumari is on track to secure a decisive victory, while Khesari Lal Yadav trails behind despite his popularity in the Bhojpuri film industry. The results from Chapra are crucial as they reflect the broader trends in the Bihar Assembly elections, where the NDA alliance is expected to retain a strong position.
