After five decades as a frontman, the lead singer of Whitesnake says he is retiring. David Coverdale made the announcement on Whitesnake’s YouTube page .
Coverdale was originally with Deep Purple in the 1970s before Whitesnake formed near the end of that decade.
Coverdale, 74, says he has known for the last few years that it was time for him to retire.
“The last few years has been very evident to me that it‘s time really for me to hang up my rock and roll platform shoes and skin tight jeans,” Coverdale said. “It’s time for me to call it a day.”
Whitesnake is known for hits like, “Here I Go Again,” and “Is This Love.” The former reaching No. 1 and the latter landing at No. 2 on Billboard.
