SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A Sumter County teacher accused of having an “inappropriate relationship” with a 16-year-old student was arrested, according to the sheriff’s office.

Wildwood Middle High School officials were notified Wednesday by a concerned student of the relationship between Madelyn K. Mead, 26, and another student, the sheriff’s office said.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and Mead was immediately removed from the school.

Detectives obtained a warrant Thursday for Mead’s arrest and she was taken into custody at her home in Citrus County.

She is being held on no bond.

“The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the Sumter County School Board are continually working to keep our schools and students safe,” the sheriff’s office said.
