PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Friday thanked the people of Budgam for placing their trust in the party and electing Agha Muntazir Mehdi in the bypolls, saying the mandate marks a “new beginning after 70 years” and carries a “huge responsibility to serve without fear or favour.”

Speaking to reporters after the results were declared, Mehbooba said the people had shown “faith in PDP and Muntazir sahib despite the government and nearly 50 MLAs standing on the other side.”

She said the party prays for “strength and courage to serve the people of Budgam honestly,” adding that Muntazir, being well-educated and accessible, “will keep his doors open for everyone.”.
