The chunk of concrete that fell from the ceiling of the Vancouver Aquatic Centre on Nov. 3 has caused a growing wave of frustration.
The facility — slated to undergo a three-year, $175 million retrofit — has been closed indefinitely, displacing the groups that relied on it.
Swim groups like the Canadian Dolphin Swim Club have had to find other pools for their athletes, difficult in a city massively underserved by pools.
“We are begging and borrowing — mostly begging — and we have reached out to our own swim community,” said Jeannie Lo, president of the club.
But the city isn’t making it easy. Lo said they’ve been told they can’t ask their peers for help, but to approach the parks board. And other swim clubs offering up shared time have been told they have to talk to the park board firs
