Calvin Mackie, founder and CEO of STEM NOLA | STEM Global Action, has received the 2025 American Society of Mechanical Engineers' Ralph Coats Roe Medal, one of the most distinguished honors in the field of engineering.
The award recognizes those who have made “an outstanding contribution toward a better public understanding and appreciation of the engineer’s worth to contemporary society.”
Mackie began STEM NOLA with $100,000 of his own money to bring extracurricular science and math activities to kids. The free Saturday morning events use project-based activities and hands-on learning to "expose, inspire, and engage students in grades K-12," according to the group's mission statement.
