Walking in the woods of AutWin is delightful, and now in mid-November, we are in the midst of this interlude after the leaf drop and before the snow cover. It is at this time that we can look through the open woods among the leafless trees and see the growths of mosses, clubmosses and ferns while lichens and shelf fungi hang onto tree trunks.
But these November days reveal much more than what is seen among the trees. Roadsides and fields have their own stories to tell. These sites that were filled with the flora of late summer, yellows of sunflowers and goldenrods, along with the varied asters, are now showing the product of those colorful days. Activities of insects during warm weather pollinated the flowers and now they stand tall (before being covered with snow) laden with seeds.
