Srinagar, Nov 14: In his strongest attack yet after the National Conference’s defeat in the Budgam by-poll, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi had “committed political suicide,” claiming the person Ruhullah backed in Budgam “will never let him grow.”

Taking a clear dig at Ruhullah, who had refused to campaign for the NC candidate, Omar said, “You cut off your nose to spite your face. We wanted something else for Budgam. We wanted development and a relationship with the ruling party, but people chose otherwise.”

The Chief Minister said the party would now undertake a detailed assessment of the defeat. “We will analyse where we erred, what needs fixing, and what changes are required within the NC. Decisions will be taken accordingly,” he said.
