Ryanair has hailed the transition to digital-only boarding passes as a "huge success" following its implementation on Wednesday. The budget airline has done away with all paper boarding passes, requiring that all passengers check-in online and use the airline's app to generate a digital boarding pass.
Despite some criticism regarding potential issues such as losing one's device, battery depletion or lack of a smartphone, Ryanair stressed that as long as passengers had checked-in online prior to arriving at the airport, they could receive a boarding pass free of charge. Following the change, the airline issued an update, stating that as of 1pm on Wednesday, over 700 flights departed across Europe without delay or disruption.
