Multiple people have been killed and more injured as a bus rammed into a shelter in the centre of Stockholm.

The incident happened at around 3.24pm local time in Valhallavägen Street in Östermalm, an upscale district in the Swedish capital.

Police confirmed that the driver of the bus has been arrested, adding that it was too early to say what had caused the collision.

‘There are both injured and deceased people in the incident,’ a statement said.

‘Police are for the moment not commenting on the number, gender or ages of the victims.’
