LINCOLN CITY Ore. (KPTV) - For 25 years, crowds of people have gathered along Lincoln City’s coastline each morning, hunting for glass floats hidden in the sand.

The Finders Keepers program began in 2000 when an artist wanted to bring back memories of Japanese fishing floats that would wash up on Lincoln City beaches, said Stephanie Hull, event and outreach coordinator with Explore Lincoln City.

Each year, more than 3,000 hand-blown glass floats are hidden by secret “float fairies” from Roads End to Siletz Bay. Visitors who find one get to keep it.

“It’s like an Easter egg hunt,” said Veronica Griffin, who came down from Vancouver to search for floats. “I think it’s way better cause you can always have it.”

The hunt attracts visitors of all ages from across the country. Caleb Walcott b
