OTTAWA — A Swedish defence company has confirmed they’re in talks to possibly produce made-in-Canada jets that would result in thousands of new Canadian jobs.

In an interview with CTV News , Micael Johansson — president and CEO of Stockholm-based Saab Group — said he’s talked to Canadian officials about building Saab’s Gripen fighter jets on Canadian soil, if the RCAF opts to purchase the jets for their fleet.

“If Canada wants to create sovereign capabilities and to do their own upgrades, to build parts of it, to do final assembly and test, we are prepared to do that,” Johansson told CTV News.

“We could do a technology transfer to Canada and support that build up.”
