IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Escucha Mi Voz Iowa says the state extending its National Guard support to ICE is “targeting immigrant workers and families across the state.”
Governor Kim Reynolds’ has extended the Iowa National Guard’s mission supporting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Their original mission was set to end Saturday. Now, they will assist through September 30, 2026.
Sixteen guard members are helping ICE with administrative, clerical and logistical tasks.
The mission doesn’t include any law enforcement capabilities. Reynolds says the team is tasked with administrative, clerical, and logistical work, which frees up ICE officers to spend more time in the field.
