ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI – An emaciated deer found in Allegan County has tested positive for chronic wasting disease, the state Department of Natural Resources said.
The doe is the first to test positive for CWD in Allegan County, which is now the 17 th county in Michigan to report the disease in the wild deer population.
Leighton Township landowners in late summer reported the worsening health of a 1½-year-old deer. A resident shared a photo with the DNR.
The DNR in late September authorized euthanasia and recovered the deer. The DNR’s Wildlife Disease Laboratory noted that the doe was in poor health and had no body fat.
