A failed asylum seeker has appeared in court accused of raping a woman in her 30s in a wooded area of Bournemouth.
Mohammed Fathi Eltbie, 24, originally from Egypt, was remanded in custody after appearing at Poole Magistrates’ Court charged in connection with the alleged incident on 5 November.
Eltbie, who required an interpreter to confirm his name and date of birth, will next appear at Bournemouth Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 18 December.
Prosecutor Robert Salame told the court that Eltbie arrived in the UK in July 2023 but his asylum claim was refused in January this year, leaving his immigration status “uncertain”.
