KINGSTON — The city is poised to take over administration of the accessible taxi program after the Kingston Area Taxi Commission stopped funding the service.

Last week, Modern Taxi informed the city that it had not been paid by the taxi commission for a week for accessible taxi services. The company could not get a response from the commission.

When the city contacted the taxi commission, a consultant hired by the commission told the city last week that the KATC had exhausted its funds supporting the accessible taxi program.

The consultant later revealed the accessible taxi program had a deficit of $230,000 and would not be able to make future payments for accessible taxi services.
