Brits who regularly use railway services could soon face a major shake-up as Rachel Reeves is tipped to make a crucial change in the upcoming Budget.
The Department for Transport (DfT) is reportedly looking at swapping the Retail Price Index (RPI) with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as a benchmark for annual increases.
Treasury officials are understood to have taken a direct interest in the next rail fare hikes, and this potential move would mark a significant change in practice for rail fare, the Financial Times reported.
If a change is made, it is likely customers would find out in December, in time for implementation in March next year, as this is usually how the fare amendments are announced.
