Phil Trautwein is pleased with what he’s seen from Cooper Cousins this season.

But it is Cousins’ future that could separate the former Erie McDowell standout from most interior offensive linemen on Penn State’s roster.

“I think he’s a high (NFL) draft pick,” Trautwein, the Lions’ offensive line coach, said Thursday when asked about the 6-6, 314-pound Cousins, a sophomore.

“I think he’s going to be an All-American here.”

That is high praise for a player that has yet to carve out a starting role in State College.

Cousins is a key reserve for a unit that features five veterans – Drew Shelton (left) and Nolan Rucci (right) at tackle, Vega Ioane (left) and Anthony Donkoh (right) at guard and Nick Dawkins at center.
