CANTON, New York (WWNY) - After toying with a run for the seat in congress Elise Stefanik is vacating, Canton businessman Josh Parker has decided against it.

“After many thoughtful conversations, Josh has decided not to enter the race. He is deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement he has received across the district and is committed to keeping the seat in Republican hands,” said David Catalfamo, a spokesman for Parker.

Parker was a close associate of the late Charlie Kirk. Kirk was best man at Parker’s wedding.

Parker would have first needed to secure the Republican nomination early next year.

Stefanik is running for governor, leaving her 21st congressional district seat open next year.

State assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) has also declined to run.
