A handful of protestors rallied outside the El Paso County Coliseum, where the Carden Circus is taking place, with half a dozen shows scheduled through the weekend.
Some of the protestors on Thursday night, Nov. 13, were representatives with animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, the organization confirmed to the El Paso Times. The protest on Nov. 13 was part of PETA’s campaign calling for "Betty," an elephant at the Carden Circus, which the organization has dubbed "The Most Depressed Elephant in the World."
PETA alleges that the elephant has paralysis "likely due to being forced to stand on her head and put several tons of weight on her trunk for decades."
