LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- Refugee families arriving in Lakewood are often in need.
It was this realization that led Horace Mann Elementary School English Language Individual Small Group Instructor Stacey Lueck to help students assimilate into the school community.
“At Horace Mann, we get a lot of refugees new to the country,” she said. “They don’t come with a lot.
“It was two years ago, one of the new kiddos in my son’s class was such a hard worker and really great kid.
“His birthday was in December, so we decided we wanted to get him something.”
Leuck contacted a social media group of Lakewood residents who share or donate items they no longer need.
From there, a used bike was donated and passed on to the fifth-grader
