NEW ORLEANS — People in City Council District E, which includes New Orleans East and the Lower Ninth Ward, The seat opened after incumbent District E Councilman Oliver Thomas ran for mayor.
In the Oct. 11 primary, former Council member Cyndi Nguyen captured 45.67% of the vote, while State Representative Jason Hughes secured roughly 36.24% leaving neither candidate above the 50% threshold.
Cyndi Nguyen has served as the District E councilmember from 2018 until 2022, when she was succeeded by Oliver Thomas. when she first took office, "District E waited 13 years after Katrina for real progress — and Cyndi Nguyen delivered."
Nguyen said she brought more than $340 million in real investment to District E in her three years as a councilmember.
