PEORIA, Ariz — The governing board for a West Valley school district has approved a policy prohibiting the adoption or promotion of "diversity, equity and inclusion frameworks."
On Nov. 13, the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board voted 4-1 to adopt a second read of a policy statement promising to not advance DEI as an "ideological or prescriptive framework."
The district's policy defines DEI as a framework that "prioritizes identity-based characteristics (such as race, gender, or ethnicity) over merit, competence, and individual ability."
The policy was initially reviewed by the board last month before it was brought back after administrators received extensive feedback.
