A butcher has been fined more than £1,000 after a gas bottle she stored in her shop ignited and caused an explosion to rip through the building. ‌

Ann Davidson, 51, kept a bottle of propane gas in the kitchen area of her Ann Davidson Butcher's shop in Strathaven, Lanarkshire. ‌

The valve for the storage cylinder had been turned on allowing gas to freely enter the atmosphere of the shop. ‌

For an unknown reason it ignited and flames tore through the shop.

Davidson and two men who had been helping in the shop, Robert Duff and Ian Barr, were knocked to the floor before managing to escape . ‌

Drinkers from a nearby pub heard the explosion and went to offer assistance as local residents fled their homes in August 2022.
