The Greenville Fire Department says crews knocked down a structure fire Monday at 732 Gloster Street after making a safe emergency evacuation just before the roof collapsed.
According to the department, Rescue 2, Engine 5, and Command 1 arrived to find a vacant, single-story brick home with heavy fire and smoke and began an interior attack. As conditions deteriorated, Command 1 requested additional units and ordered firefighters to evacuate. All personnel exited safely.
Crews then shifted to defensive operations. Engine 1 deployed extra hose lines and a blitz monitor for high-volume suppression. The fire was brought under control in about 25 minutes, officials said.
