SALEM, Va. (WDBJ) - Feeding Southwest Virginia and the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce hosted a drive-thru food drive on Friday at the Salem Civic Center, helping those impacted by the government shutdown.
Although the government reopened on Wednesday night, the community-wide effort will benefit thousands of families across Southwest Virginia who continue to face hardship from the shutdown’s fallout.
Items donated included canned products, peanut butter, beans, rice, and soups. Every donation collected will be distributed through the Feeding Southwest Virginia network to ensure no neighbor goes hungry as Thanksgiving approaches.
