BAY CITY, MI – Bay City officials will soon vote on an agreement for the implementation of automated license plate-reading cameras throughout the city.
The Bay City Commission has been discussing the matter since this summer and previously delayed its vote on the agreement.
License plate-reading cameras (LPRs) are capable of notifying officers immediately when passing vehicles suspected of being involved in serious crimes are identified.
If the proposed two-year contract is approved, 13 license plate-reading cameras provided by Georgia-based company Flock Safety will be placed throughout the city. The cameras are used in communities across Michigan and the United States, according to city documents.
The implementation of the cameras will cost the city $45,150 for fiscal year 2026 a
