BELEM, Brazil (WCAX) - University of Vermont researchers are representing Vermont at the Conference of Parties , an annual climate conference where delegates from over 190 countries negotiate targets for reducing greenhouse emissions and determine how to reach those targets.
This is the first year a U.S. presidential administration has refused to send a federal delegation to COP. UVM Professor Jon Erickson said that’s part of the reason he’s attending the conference.
“Myself and another colleague are attending to be part of the deliberations, to work with NGOs, to work with the U.S. states, to show to the world that even though Washington, D.C. has signaled their backing out of the Conference of Parties, the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, that the states are all in,” Eric
