The Nature Conservancy of Canada has added another 350 hectares to its protected lands in the Frontenac Arch.

The NCC announced Friday that three projects near Christie Lake, Upper Awada Lake and at three properties in the Loughborough Wilderness area.

In addition to preserving the forest and wetlands on those properties, the protected status safeguards habitat for species at risk, including Blanding’s turtle, gray ratsnake and eastern whip-poor-will.

“This is a proud moment for conservation in eastern Ontario. Protecting close to 350 hectares in the Frontenac Arch is a major achievement,” Rob McRae, NCC’s program director for Eastern Ontario, said in a news release. “These lands are not only ecologically rich, they are essential to the long-term health of wildlife
