OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Union Pacific merger with Norfolk Southern is moving forward after nearly all votes cast by UP shareholders were in favor.
Accoring to a UP update posted Friday, 99.5% of the votes shareholders cast — representing nearly 80% of all outstanding shares — supported issuing new shares of UP common stock for the merger.
“We appreciate our shareholders’ support in reaching this important milestone on our path to building America’s first coast-to-coast railroad,” Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena said in the UP news release. “Our shareholders see the value and understand this merger will unlock new opportunities to enhance service, growth and innovation.”
