CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- The Cape Girardeau Police Department is investigating an illegal harvest of a buck within city limits. Police said the deer was taken outside of the prescribed managed hunt and authorized private property hunting areas.
Investigators believe the deer was shot between November 8 and November 11 near Kiwanis Park. Police said the act violated RSMO § 252.040, which restricts wildlife harvesting to designated times and methods.
Improper disposal of the deer carcass may also breach RSMO § 577.076, which prohibits leaving animal remains on public roads or unauthorized property. Officers are collaborating with the Missouri Department of Conservation to ensure responsible hunting practices.
