KITTERY, Maine — A man from New York was seriously injured Friday after falling from the roof of a moving Concord Coach Lines bus on the Maine Turnpike in Kittery.
The incident was reported around 11:17 a.m. near mile marker two southbound, according to Maine State Police. Troopers arrived to find several motorists and bus passengers helping the injured man, identified as 35-year-old Derrick McDuffy.
Kittery Fire/EMS took McDuffy to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.
Witnesses said McDuffy claimed he felt too hot, opened the emergency roof hatch, and climbed onto the roof of the moving bus, according to police. The driver slowed and tried to pull over, but McDuffy fell off and landed on the shoulder of the highway.
