An arrest was made Friday morning in the shooting of former football coach and current athletic director John Beam at Laney College in Oakland, according to Oakland police.
Sources told NBC Bay Area police arrested Cedric Irving Jr., 27, in Beam's shooting. It's not clear if Irving knows Beam.
The shooting occurred just before noon Thursday, sending Beam to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee released a statement later Friday morning addressing the arrest.
