The cause: To help people be with loved ones in their final days

When Kevin Crowe’s friend Ryan Westerman was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, they spent as much time as possible together, right up until Mr. Westerman’s final days in a Calgary hospice.

Mr. Westerman died in 2010 at the age of 37. “I was fortunate enough to be there when he took his last breath, and I was fortunate enough [to be] there to pick up his four-year-old son and put him in bed with him and see his wife and son say goodbye to him,” Mr. Crowe recalled from his office in Calgary, where he is chief operating officer of Long View Systems,
